The Fool (Daughter of the Moon, Book 1) - HP Mallory

Magic and Mayhem vs Deadlines and Dinners for One. Decisions, decisions…

This is a new PWF series and I can already tell it’s going to be good. Grab yourself a cuppa, a snack and a footstool to pop your feet up on, because you’ll want to read this in one go.

Kate is a middle-aged, divorced author with no dependents and no responsibilities other than her books. When she hears that her eccentric aunt, who she hasn’t seen in years, has died and left her a house in the middle of nowhere, it’s not an issue for her to up sticks and travel to the back of beyond with the intention of selling the place, then returning to the city to resume her life of deadlines and dinners for one.

If only life were that straightforward. What greets Kate on her arrival at the house is a whole world she was previously unaware of. She doesn’t have long to make the decision of whether she will accept the responsibilities which come with the house or whether she will return to her mundane life with no memory of ever having been there.

If Kate accepts her new role, she’ll be a target for those who want the role-holder dead. If she goes back to the city, she’ll probably die of boredom anyway.

There is magic, a talking goat, a very loud shrunken head, an overbearing and overprotective barbarian bodyguard from another dimension, and an earthly guide who Kate finds very inconveniently attractive.

I raced through this book. I loved every minute of it. Buy it—you won’t regret it.
