Lucifer’s Rule (Hellfire Series, Book 2) - Ella Moore

One of my favourite Lucifer stories. A story of love and personal growth in the most unexpected of places.

This is the second book in a new paranormal romance series from Ella Moore. This book can be read as a standalone. It is set several centuries after book one, on a version of Earth where humans and demons both live in their own tribes on the same plane of existence. At a time after Lucifer had fallen but was still fighting his way to dominion over all demons. This book contains very detailed scenes of a sexual nature between two consenting males; one demon and one fallen angel.

I loved this book. I couldn’t put it down. I have been looking forward to reading this since I finished book one and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s one of the best Lucifer books I’ve read in a long while. We saw glimpses of Lucifer in book one but we really get to know his character in this book. The world building is excellent. The character development is really well thought through and executed. I felt like I really got to know what made them tick and saw the progression and growth of each one.

Arran is the two hundred year old son of Erisi and Torag, who were the main characters in book one. He is desperate to get himself out from the shadow of his famous parents and make his own way in the world. He decides the best way to do this is join the ranks of Lucifer's army and work his way up from there. All does not go to plan though and he finds that the shadow of his parents has a long reach, with some unforeseen consequences.

Lucifer has spent millennia learning the lesson that he must guard his feelings, not let anyone in and not allow himself any weaknesses. He learned the hard way and it’s a rule he lives by. He wasn’t expecting his reaction to Arran and does his best to fight it, knowing that if it becomes public knowledge, it paints a target on both of their backs.

This is a story of two individuals who have to come to terms with their pasts and overcome their issues and presumptions. Its a story of love and hope where it is least expected. I really hope there will be more in this series. There are numerous characters I’d like to see more of.

Cold Seduction (Ice Planet Rendu, Book 3) - Zoe Ashwood

Spicy alien space romp on a frozen planet!

This is the third and final book in the Ice Planet Rendu trilogy, an Alien Sci-Fi Romance from Zoe Ashwood. The book is set on the mostly inhospitable frozen planet of Rendu and features both human and sentient alien beings. There are several descriptive scenes of consenting inter-species sexual activity between an alien male and a human female.

I have really enjoyed reading this fun alien space romp. Smart human females and hot alien guys. What’s not to love? I enjoy the world building, the characters, the story and the spicy scenes.

This story tells the tale of the last remaining unmated ad Naals brother, Lhett. He’s rough, rugged, covered in battle scars and he can’t see how any female would want to be with him, let alone the tall blonde human he was assigned to guard for a while.

Hanne has her own battle scars though. She’s escaped an abusive relationship with a powerful man on Earth and has no intention of returning there. She likes Lhett but experience has told her that powerful men aren’t always the best choice, so she will stay on Rendu, regardless of whether or not he is interested in her.

What follows is the story of two damaged people coming to terms with their pasts and finding each other in the process. Like the previous two books, this has a happy ever after, plenty of action and no cliffhangers.

The reading order for this series is as follows:

Book 1: Cold Attraction

Book 2: Cold Temptation

Book 3: Cold Seduction

The Broken Mirror (Haven Hollow, Book 13) - HP Mallory & JR Rain

A string of bad luck and a magical progression

This novella is the 13th book in the Haven Hollow series. It is a collaboration between HP Mallory and JR Rain. The book falls in the Paranormal Women’s Fiction genre. In this book there is no romance and there are no scenes of a sexual nature.

On the face of it, this book is about the bad luck brought about by breaking a mirror but it seems that the book is actually a demonstration of Poppy’s increasingly adept magical abilities and to explore the depth of the friendship between her and local witch, Wanda. They seem to be working together in a more frequent and close manner. I’m hopeful that we will soon see the formation of a formal coven in Haven Hollow, which will include Poppy.

This is a fun and fast read. Make yourself a cuppa, pop your feet up, get comfy and enjoy!

Cold Temptation (Ice Planet Rendu, Book 2) - Zoe Ashwood

Grab a cuppa and a snack and curl up on the sofa with this fun alien romance.

This is the second book in the Ice Planet Rendu trilogy, an Alien Sci-Fi Romance from Zoe Ashwood. The book is set on the mostly inhospitable frozen planet of Rendu and features both human and sentient alien beings. There are several descriptive scenes of consenting inter-species sexual activity between an alien male and a human female.

This is a lighthearted and fun look at alien-human romance. I really enjoyed it. These books are long enough to develop characters and build worlds, yet short enough to read in one sitting. Like book one, this has a Happy Ever After and no cliffhangers. It can be read as a standalone but it is better read as part of the series.

Human zoologist, Mika Yadama, is in her element. A strange new world with an abundance of new creatures to catalogue. She has little fear and no idea which animals are approachable and which want to kill her. Sady for her, it seems that most animals on this planet want to kill her. She’s highly likely to die from petting something she shouldn’t pet. Her guardian for the duration of the human visit is Kol ad Naals, who seems to be keeping as much distance from her as possible now that the political situation on his planet has been resolved. Kol wants Mika more than anyone he’s ever met but she’s leaving with the delegation and he is tied up investigating a series of break-ins. His duty to the new Queen and his people must come first but Mika is distracting and maintaining that distance is not as easy as he thought it would be.

Cold Attraction (Ice Planet Rendu, Book 1) - Zoe Ashwood.

Some like it Hoth! Creating steam on an ice planet.

This is the first book in the Ice Planet Rendu trilogy, an Alien Sci-Fi Romance from Zoe Ashwood. The book is set on the mostly inhospitable frozen planet of Rendu and features both human and sentient alien beings. There are several descriptive scenes of consenting inter-species sexual activity between an alien male and a human female.

Zoe Ashwood has a fun and easy to read style of writing and the books are the perfect length for an evening on the sofa with a duvet and a cup of your favourite drink. The story has a Happy Ever After and there are no cliffhangers. Alien relationships are fun! Lots of differences to explore and new worlds to discover.

Humans have recently discovered that they are not alone in the galaxy and their first foray into space is on a fact finding mission to Rendu, supported and protected by the Rendian Armed forces. The journey between planets takes months and the ship arrives back at Rendu to political upheaval; the King has been murdered and in his place is a Regent who is controlling the young princess and he most definitely does not have the interests of his people at heart. How will this impact the human delegation? The visiting humans must be kept safe because the Regent wants trade and contact with Earth but they must be controlled because he has also reinstated unsafe practices which cannot come to light if he is to maintain power.

Adriana is the human anthropologist responsible for learning Rendian culture and history. Her guardian while she is on Rendu is Taron ad Naals, whose mission is to keep her safe and in the city for the six week duration of the human visit. Needless to say, all does not go to plan and the relationship between the two ends up more than just colleagues.

If you're new to Alien Sci-Fi Romance, this is a good one to start with.

Hauntingly Happy (Midlife Spirits, Book 10) - HP Mallory

The Voodoo Who Do What You Don’t Dare Do People

This is book 10 of Midlife Spirits, a Paranormal Women’s Fiction series of novels from HP Mallory. The book is set in the Garden District of New Orleans, USA. There is some romantic interest although there are no scenes of a sexual nature in this book.

This series keeps on getting better. I am so invested in these characters. HP Mallory’s fluid writing style makes it easy to race through the book in an evening. Excellent character development and world building. I have a good practical knowledge of modern western witchcraft but for me these books have really sparked an interest in the Voodoo practices from New Orleans.

This story takes an unusual turn by briefly pulling in some characters from Mallory’s Haven Hollow series for a cameo. It is relevant, so it does work, although I was surprised to see them there. You don’t need to have read the Haven Hollow series to understand their role in this narrative, however if you haven’t read them, I recommend that you do.

As with most of the books in this series, just as you think you know what’s happening and where the story is going, Mallory throws in a curve ball and you head off in a new direction. Although I was confident in some of my predictions, I did not expect the endings I got in these last two books. I cannot wait for book 11.

The reading order for this series is as follows:

Book 1: Afraid of the Dark

Book 2: A Ghost of a Chance

Book 3: Mischief Brewing

Book 4: Bump in the Night

Book 5: Bone Voyage

Book 6: Deadly Intentions

Book 7: Ghostly Gathering

Book 8: Magic in the Night

Book 9: Making Spirits Bright

Book 10: Hauntingly Happy

The Yule log (Haven Hollow, Book 12) - HP Mallory & JR Rain

Even the immortal undead aren’t immune to the wrath of an angry Goddess.

This festive novella is the 12th book in the Haven Hollow series. It is a collaboration between HP Mallory and JR Rain. The book falls in the Paranormal Women’s Fiction genre. In this book there is no romance and there are no scenes of a sexual nature.

This is a Yule / Christmas short story focusing on Lorcan and Wanda. A tale of how a stroppy vampire gets his come-uppance from the Goddess when he treats her Yule Log with disrespect. Its a light hearted and quick read and although it doesn’t necessarily progress the overall story in the series, it is fun, festive and worth the read if you've been following the Haven Hollow series..

For some reason, this novella is listed under the Remarkable Remedies banner rather than Wanda’s Witchery but I’m not sure why.

The reading order so far is:

Gypsy Magic : Poppy’s Potions (Haven Hollow, Book 1)

Cashmere Curses : Wanda’s Witchery (Haven Hollow, Book 2)
